FAQ
Sealing any type of surface is beneficial as it will reduce the amount of soils, greases and general food stains from becoming ingrained in your freshly laid pavers, natural stone, and, including marble or granite. Sealing is advantageous as it will keep these stains from penetrating deep into your newly laid surface, which in turn makes cleaning and the removal of contaminants a lot easier.
You can seal by using a number of applications. All of these are indicated on our data sheets. The most popular is by way of a low pressure spray pack. These are charged by a simple pump action and are very economical. The spray is very directional which is perfect to minimise the amount of overspray onto plants and other surfaces.
Yes. Miteq have a range of approved applicators that come and quote per/sqm direct to the customer. You can apply the products yourself but no warranty can be given on the application of the product when self applied.
At Miteq we offer two types of sealers. Surface Sealers (201/202) and penetrating Sealers (102/103/104).
Miteq surface sealers are exactly that. They reside on the surface and give a gloss/matt finish. While most surface sealers can become slippery we are able to include a non-slip surface coating for your special requirements (available only in Sealer 202).
Miteq penetrating sealers can be used on most surface types. They are ideal for concrete/clay based products or any porous surface. Penetrating sealers generally should not change the colour or texture of the surface, but a trial should be carried out to ascertain the desired result. If ever in doubt always call Miteq directly or one of our Distributors for advice.
This will depend on the type of substrate. Always refer to the specific Data Sheets to ascertain correct usage. As a guide you can expect anywhere between 5-10sqm/ltr for most applications depending on porosity of substrate. A small trial is recommended to ascertain exact usage before commencing or ordering.
Miteq sealers have been developed to ensure that minimal risk is taken when applying our products. Always refer to Material Safety Data Sheets which will aid in safety and handling before commencement.
We have developed our Solvent based products with IPA (isopropyl alcohol). This additive (solvent) is a lot safer than other more volatile and hazardous chemicals that are sometimes used.*
Sealer 102 now meets the Green Building Council of Australia low VOC, as tested to standard IEQ-13.
Miteq sealers, as with other sealers, won’t stop marking. Our sealers are designed to create a barrier to stop stains from becoming to deeply ingrained. Once deep staining has occurred it may then make removal of the stain almost impossible.
Sealing with Miteq will keep the stain closer to the surface making cleaning and removing of the stain easier.
Cleaning of the surface before sealing is desirable. It will ensure that a clean, dust free and stain free surface is obtained for the application of Miteq Sealers. The advantage of cleaning is that on application of Miteq sealers no dirt or soils will get trapped in the sub-surface causing later and difficult removal of these stains.
Miteq offer a warranty on the manufacture of the product only. This means if the product is shown to be faulty Miteq will replace the product only. We can, in conjunction with an approved applicator, give a joint warranty that will cover both the manufacture and application.
This warranty will only be given in writing if applied by one of our accredited applicators.
Most penetrating sealers have shown to be more effective than surface sealers in trapping the effects of efflorescence below the surface. This is mainly due to Miteq penetrating sealers allowing the surface to breath.
Penetrating sealers will trap the rising salts below the surface and allow moisture vapour to escape.
As most penetrating sealers act as a repellent, you must ensure you have stripped the previous sealer back. Once this has been done you can then apply a surface sealer.
This process is best carried out by a professional experienced in these matters.
This beading effect, in some case, may actually not occur at all. It DOES NOT mean that the sealer is not working.
This effect is caused by a film being left on the surface following application. After time, this film is worn away by general traffic thus the beading effect ceases to occur.
No, only the penetrating sealers in the Miteq range are breathable. This means that any moisture vapour trapped below the surface will be allowed to expel over time.
Surface sealers are not breathable. If there is any moisture present in the substrate it should be given ample time to expel through the substrate. Cement based products will take less time to dry completely compared to natural stone due to density. It should be noted that delamination of the surface sealer can occur if not applied to a properly prepared surface or allowed to thoroughly dry.
Miteq sealers and their life expectancy can vary depending on a number of factors. Penetrating sealers like Sealer 102, 103 and 104 will visibly show little wear as they sit below the surface of the stone. Life expectancy of these sealers is around 5-7 years. To achieve this time span it is important to note that a single coat re-seal in the high traffic areas is recommended at the 2-3 year period after initial application.
Surface sealers like Sealer 201 & 202 should give around 5 years life expectancy. These sealers sit on the surface of the stone and therefore will visibly show wear. The life expectancy can change depending on a number of factors. Commercial scrubbers cleaning the sealed surface weekly/monthly, heavy foot traffic generally found in shopping precincts or trolley/cherry picker use during construction can all drastically reduce the expected life span. All these factors and more should be taken into account when recommending or using surface sealers.
